As you probably have heard the San Francisco Orchid Society is having its 44th
annual show and sale this weekend. Friday was a benefit for the Conservatory
of Flowers, the large Victorian greenhouse damaged in December by a storm. I
volunteered for the CP information table this afternoon, and it was a very
enjoyable experience. Many people came over and asked us questions about our
display plants, they were local Bay Area residents and also people from around
the world, one group had flown in from Thailand just for the show. Over 40
of them took our information papers on the BACPS and the ICPS so hopefully
both societies will gain new members. If you live in the Bay Area and haven't
been to the show yet, I highly recommend you attend the final day on Sunday.
The rainforest exhibit is worth coming for all by itself, see if you can spot
the Heliamphora, Pinguicula, Drosera, Nepenthes and Sarracenia lurking in the
mists...
Sure, some of these species aren't exactly "rainforest plants", but
heck, it's meant to be a pleasing display for the eyes, not a lesson in
natural history. :-)
It's a great show, those of you who are fans of orchids will especially be
impressed by what you see. For information call (415) 665-2468

Demetrios
