I read with interest the thread following Toby Marsden's posting in CP
Digest 633 regarding a world database of CP sites.

Might I suggest that a better approach would be to develop this database
using HTML and imagemaps. Unlike a MS-Windows approach, this has the
advantage of being relatively platform independent (avoid Netscape and
other non-standard HTML), has built-in support for "clickable" maps (a
text option would be nice, tho), can easily be ported from standalone to
network, and would permit selective network access to sensitive
information such as directions to specific sites. HTML is also easy to
write and maintain! What's not to like?

I'd be happy to help in any way I can. For what it's worth, I have some
HTML experience (though I haven't worked with imagemaps yet), and I have
a Geography BA with one semester of cartography. What I don't have is
unlimited free time to devote nor a list of sites. Also, the Web server
I administer could not be used for this project.

Looking forward to more discussion on this topic!
