This is to tell you of another "new species" described recently:
P.Debbert in Sendtnera 3:101-102 (1996) describes
Drosera kansaiensis as a new species, obviously based on what has
previously been called "_D.spatulata_ 'Kansai type'" by Kondo & coll.
Apparently, the author has not noticed the (content of the) paper by
Y.Hoshi, M.Hizume & K.Kondo, who have used
"Genomic in situ hybridization to improve a hypothesis on natural-
hybrid origin of the hexaploid _Drosera spatulata_ 'Kansai-type'" in
La Kromosomo II-75-76:2619-2623 (1994).
BTW, the same (i.e. Kansai-stuff=_D.rotundifolia * spatulata_) was
already found out earlier by T.Nakamura & Ueda in Acta Phytotax.
Geobot. 42:136 (1991) about D.spatulata subsp.tokaiensis, which was
accordingly relabelled D.* tokaiensis (Komiya & Shibata) T.Nakamura &
Ueda.
D.kansaiensis is, therefore, a synonym of D.* tokaiensis, or to be
described by the bastard formula _D.rotundifolia * spatulata_.
Kind regards
Jan
PS: Who were the reviewers of that paper for Sendtnera? I would like
to have some little discussion with them.
