re: coir for CPs

I've tried growing CPs in a 3 to 1 coir/sphagnum peat mix with a pH of 6.5 to 7.5 in an aquarium. The plants were
Drosera capensis, D. nitidula, D. aliciae, D. binata, Sarracenia purpurea, VFT and Pinguicula caudata. All except the
Sarracenia slowly faded away. I've now changed the compost to peat, and artificially acidified it to 5.5 to 6.5 and
most of the plants are thriving.
The plants' response seems too much for the acidity change alone; perhaps there is something else unsuitable in the
coir?
Has anybody got any suggestions?
regards to all,
Brian Evans
