Hi Everyone:

Have been reading the list for a few months now, decided to say Hello.
I have been interested in CP's since my mother brought a VFT home for me
when I was ten.
Ever since then I have become fascinated by them. Anyone know what I
mean? The fact that this list exists tells me it's a common reaction.
It's neat to read things on a topic
that interests me, and to know others share similar feelings.
I currently raise Nepenthes, Cephalotus, and tropical Drosera's indoors
in an oak and glass case that I built, utilizing 400 Watt MH lighting.
Outside, on my balcony, I grow Sarrs. and VFT's. What I enjoy most is
growing plants from seed. I find this at times
challenging, sometimes frustrating, but always rewarding!

A question, I have been growing Cape sundews for about 6 years now. They
are grown indoors under lights. They only bloomed the first year I got
them (well a couple of other times, sporadically) I vary the day/nite
light cycle to emulate temperate conditions( 16 hr days in summer down
to 10 hrs in winter) I know that this species
flowers and sets seeds easily(weedy) but not for me. They grow well
otherwise though.
Does anyone out there have any insights for me?

My favorite plants are Neps. Their variety in form and color are truly
spectacular!
Watching a leaf emerge, lengthen, start to pitcher, then have the trap
inflate and see the lid open always leaves me wondering how this
evolution was possible.
One great fringe benefit of this avocation is the people you meet as a
result of a mutual interest in growing CP's.
Carnivorous plants attracted me to this hobby, but its other peoples
enthusiasm that holds me here.

I'd like to thank Glenn Rankin for the Drosophyllum seeds. It's guys
like him that get
the plants out there. I have found that the more plants I give away, the
more I get.
Sounds like a contradiction, but it's true!
Also, I have no hesitation in recommending Andreas Wistuba as a
reputable, honest and reliable source for plants. I have been dealing
with him for several years now and its always a pleasure. His plants are
healthy, well labeled and he is very conscientious.

Anyway, at the risk of wasting bandwidth, I will say so long for now.
No longer lurking but never far.
