Subject: Fw: Gen germination.

Hi!,
I sent some 'fresh' seed to Allen Lowrie a few weeks ago, a
yearly occurrence, and he phoned me at 3am on Friday morning to
confirm that he had received them, in the 1.5 hour conversation,
seed viability came up, general problems, and the difficulties
Northern growers experience trying to germinate some of the
Southern species, and visa versa.
Fernando has on three occasions sent me Genlisea filiformis
seed, once via Allen, and I have never had any germination success
with this species. Fernando some months ago, on the Multiple
recipients, suggested drying the Brazilian seeds out for a few
months, I tried it without success.
Allen apparently had the same problems with this species, and
informed me that recently he sowed some seed on peat, used the tray
method with the water level just below the peat surface, and then
placed them under 30% shadecloth, (Perth receives an incredible
amount of sun in Summer), and in a short period of time germination
had taken place.
Some of my seed are over a year old!!!!, but have placed the
pots under similar conditions, braving 50% shadecloth.
Shall keep recipients informed if there are any positive
results.

QUESTION: Can anyone please help a friend of mine here in Cape
Town with information regarding a listserve dealing in Bromeliads,
preferably Tillandsias.

                     ALL THE BEST Eric
