Hi Jeff,
Welcome to the group. I'm not sure what the problems are with
your flytrap, but a few thoughts come to mind. One is that it's just a
seasonal change. The types of leaves produced change with the seasons. On
the other hand, I don't find that many deformed traps produced, although
I certainly see some especially in the fall. Another possibility is that
you have a pest problem. Mites can cause the types of problems you
describe. They can be difficult to see, but are usually visible as tiny
dark specks crawling around your plants. One common type of mite, the
spider mites, also generate a lot of webbing (like spider web) around the
plant.
The bugs you describe are not aphids. Aphids are found on the
plants, usually on newer growths, and are generally green or dark in
color. The silver bugs you describe are almost certainly springtails.
They are found in any damp place with organic matter around. They do not
harm plants, and I wouldn't worry about them. I've had them in my pots
ever since I've had pots. Hope this helps.
