Hello everyone on this cp listserv,
I have just recently joined this discussion group. Even though much of
the exchange is above my head I am enjoying learning bits here and
there.
I am an elementary teacher in Alberta, Canada. We have had a recent
curriculum change and am now teaching a unit on plants. I would be very
interested in growing a VFT (Dionaea) in class as it is always featured
in the trade books that my students read.
Could someone advise me as to where I could get some VFT seeds? I have
some info on how to grow them, what is the best soil, etc. although any
more information...do's and don'ts, etc. ....would be helpful.
Some other plants that I would be interested in trying are Drosera
capensis (Cape Sundew), and the flava species of the Sarracenia.
Thank you for your help,
Pam
P.S. I enjoyed reading about your sixth grade science project, Eric.
Keep us posted on your district results. Our school science
fair begins Feb. 25th.
I have a few questions for you as I am very new to cp study or any
plant study for that matter. You may email me personally if you wish.
monson@agt.net
1. What do you mean by "media"? That must be what the tissue
grows in, for example, water, different kinds of soil, moss,
etc.?
2. What is a plant tissue culture? What does it look like,
where do you get it, and what is it used for?
3. What is a homemade hood, how did you make it and what is it
used for?
4. You must work with a microscope to be able to observe
bacteria. Is this correct? What kind of a microscope
do you use and how powerful is it?
5. How did you get interested in cp study?
6. Do you grow cps as a hobby? If so...which ones?
I hope you will pardon my lack of knowledge about the world of plant
experimentation. I am learning.
Thank you again
