Subject: Re: N. rajah cultivation

Hi All,

I have my N. rajah in reasonable humidity in with the rest of my
highlanders in pure live sphagnum...

It is _very_ slow but not too tricky. I got mine as I have said before from
Paul Harwood (originally, I believe, from Andreas). All the other Neps I
bought from Paul I put in live sphagnum and I lost them over winter :-( I
now have 3 species (rajah, ventricosa and spectabilis) and all but the
rajah are potted in bark mixture. It was the compost that got them.

When I first started growing Neps early last year I had tiny plants, and I
couldn't believe that they could grow as fast as I had heard. Well the
secret is, of course, having established plants. From TC or seed they take
ages to get growing fast (IMO) but stick a cutting in a pot and wait for it
to outgrow the room. My ventricosa, which is my largest Nep, is about 8-10"
tall and puts out a new leaf every couple of weeks. However, my spectabilis
seedling puts out one leaf every month or 2 and just will not seem to
grow..... (I know they're different species).

Kind Regards,

Toby
