Hi all
I've read 'sun pitcher plant' for Heliamphora many times, here in the list or
in Slack's book...
In 'Nature et Culture des Plantes Carnivores', Baffray, Brice, Danton,
Tournier, EDISUD 1989, the etimology of the plant name is as follow:
The greek root for amphora is amphoreus, pitcher. (sorry, no greek font
available). Nothing new.
But Heli, Elios (sun) is a confusion with Elos, swamp. So it should be
Elamphora or something like that, the swamp pitcher plant. G. Bentham is given
as author of the genera and the use of the word Elos.
Any comment is welcome.
Laurent
