Loyd Wix has an interesting idea with the water-wash germination
enhancement. I wonder if this is simulating spring thaw flooding of the
sown seeds after the winter stratification? During Winter, and
especially if the ground was frozen, there would be little water
movement until the spring melt, hence startification followed by washing
and then warm germination conditions.
