Perhaps we have been concentrating too much on one theory about the baking
soda, and have gone in the wrong direction. Remember that Na2CO2 not only
releases sodium salts when it reacts with acids, but also CARBON DIOXIDE
GAS! This stuff is known to have a multitude of biologic effects, including
a "growth-hormone" effect on certain organisms. Perhaps there is some
counter-inhibitory effect on something else in the soil, perhaps some
fungus.....
The important thing is - do the CPs "crank it up"? Looks like a major
thesis for some "budding" doctorial candidate (har, har).
