Subject: Dangers of dry ice

Dear Tan Hong Yee and list,

before considering dry ice please be aware that this is a
          potentially dangerous material.

          1. It is very cold and will cause frost bite if handled
          carelessly.

          2. As you say Tan it is 'highly compressed CO2' allot in a
small volume. If used in an enclosed environment or in an
area with little air circulation it can caused asphyxiation.

I think there are better methods to raise CO2 levels without
          the dangers of dry ice.

>If CPs really do benefit with CO2, I suspect that some dry
>ice with warm water beside the plants will make the plants
>very happy, since dry ice is basically very compressed CO2.

This would look very good for a home Sci Fi Movie - (the VFT
from....Venus perhaps) but I doubt of much help to the
plants. The CO2 will be released quickly releasing a dense
blanket of CO2 vapour to smother your plants. These high CO2
levels may well be harmful to the plants as well as people.

          Regards

          Loyd
