Subject: _Pinguicula chilensis_

Dear Jose,

I have so far only been able to find locality data in Casper's
monograph (1966:117-119):
Chile, Valdivia, in palustris graminetisque rarissima, el Corral et
       los llanos.
       Cautin, Volcan Llaima
       Osorno, Paso Puyehue
Argentina, Gob. del Rio Negro, Parque Nacional Nahuel Huapi, Cerro
       Nireco
       dto., Cumbre Cerro Nireco
       ... de las Nubas
       Gob. del Neuquen, Pino Hachado
       Cerro Campane
       Arroyo Los Guemados

Originally, _P. chilensis_ was only known from the Valdivian
Cordillera Pelada. At altitudes around 1000 m on open, turfy places,
a typically antarctic bog flora thrives, of which the most important
representatives are _Donatia fascicularis_, _Astelia pumila_,
_Sphagnum magellanicum_, and _Tribeles australis_. In these carpets,
_Drosera uniflora_ (carnivorous!), _Pinguicula chilensis_, _Schizaea
fistulosa_ and other herbs grow.

_P. chilensis_ also occurs in subandine Prados in wet places,
accompanied by _Mimulus_ spp., _Lomaria_ spp., _Mertensia pedalis_,
_Senecio hualtata_, _Valeriana laxiflora_, and _Baccharis
sagittalis_. Apparently, the localities in the meadows ("Mallin") of
the high regions at the borders of melting glaciers at 2000-3000 m
altitude are, however, more characteristic. Here _P. chilensis_
enters an association with _Caltha andicola_, _Melandrium
cucubaloides_, and _Calandrinia colchaguensis_.

Good luck!
Kind regards
Jan
