Hi Guys,

Mr. dr.cap requested some info on and the use and type of sand to use for
CP's. I've used (bought) tons of sand over the years and found standard
"construction sand" the best. In our area, it's all dredged from rivers
and has a great consistency. Besides, it's clean and cheap. I use to
get it for 15 bucks a ton. Construction sand is safe. Beach sand
should never be used. BTW, straight beach sand cannot be used for making
mortar and cannot be sold as such.. When I lived in CA, we used washed
silica sand (#10,#20, and #30 as I remember) and it worked great. It
came in 100 pound bags. No matter what sand you use, I would recommend
two things:(1) ask where it came from and(2) wash it a few times before
mixing it with other materials.
