Subject: Drosera Flowers

To all with the question of D pauciflora flowering.
Has anyone tried or experimented with the South African discovery of the
"smoke water"
where for years the idea was to burn grass and leaves on top of the pot.
The research carried out in South Africa and here in West Australia has
shown that it is the chemicals in the smoke, mixed with water that trigger
the germination and in many of the Drosera and terrestrial Orchids from
here, to flower.
The problem with this has been sorting out the approx.2,000 chemicals and
or their combinations that are involved with the smoke. Tests carried out
here in Kings Park and Botanical Gardens have been absolutely amazing with
germinations taken from 1 - 5% to 80 - 90% after smoke treatment Could
there be something in this, for species such as D pauciflora.
In the West Australian Drosera such as D. zonaria and D. erythrorhiza and
at least 5 terrestrial orchids, flowering never occurs unlesss there has
been a fire in the previous season.

Food for thought.
