Hi all,
I have been lurking for a while and finally got around to posting. I have a
couple questions about Carnivorous plants, and a comment on the HD
discussion.
Question #1
I have a small Nepenthes Judith Finn (spathulata x veitchii). Its last two
leaves and and pitchers have more than doubled in size from those being
produced previously. My concern is that the leaves are orange/red colored.
The plant seems healthy besides this, and the oldest red leaf is beginning
to turn green slowly. Is this normal? The plant is being grown in a
terrarium in an east facing window that receives early morning sun and
diffused light throughout the rest of the day, supplemented with
flourescents. The humidity varies from 50-80%. The temperature right now is
65f nights to 80f day.
Question # 2
I am really intrigued by Cephalotus. Would it do alright in the conditions
described above? What are some suggestions as to good cp's for this
situation?
Right now I have Dionea, Drosera capensis, adelae, spathulata, Darlingtonia,
and two small Nepenthes.
I would just like to say that I just purchased 3 cps (Darlingtonia, Drosera,
and Nepenthes) from home depot for $4 a piece. I don't think I could have
found a deal like that anywhere, especially on the Darlingtonia. The plants
were from Gublers Orchids who state "These plants are artificially
propagated to help insure that these species will survive in the future."
They also have a website (which is very shoddy) at www.Gublers.com. I have
no problem purchasing these plants as welcome additions to my collection
instead of having them rot in the store, plus I could buy three of these
plants for the price I would have to pay for one elsewhere. I will
definately purchase many other plants I want from CP dealers who can supply
the uncommon or specialty plants I crave. This HD topic has been circulating
throughout some of the orchid lists and newsgroup lately, and the replies
seem to be about the same.
Regards,
Scott Mcphee
