Well, there is *one* thing that will keep raccoons at bay - electric
fences. A friend of mine has a pool and the raccoons were eating his koi.
He installed a small electric fence around it (not all that expensive) and
they stay out now. He heard them the first night it was on. Pretty
spectacular I guess. :)
