I have been growing a N. alata var. "striped" for a while in a plastic
jar with dimensions ~18" tall, ~10" long. There are six small holes,
applied via: a red-hot nail near the top at two different levels (and
four in the lid). The plant has been growing in the enclosed container
for almost two months now, and I was very surprised when no mould had
grown.
Errant "tufts" of mould were removed, every so often, by me using two
bamboo skewers. However, the mould growth became daily, and in increasing
amounts. This mould is not on the plants, but on the surface. It is a
"generic mould" which is basically white-grey and, as of this moment, in
tufts and a mesh-like state at one section of the soil surface.
Since everyone I have talked to about fungicide dilution has,
apparently, never used fungicide, and the books mentioning fungicide say
"follow dilution instructions on container" (which doesn't help much
because I don't trust that the dilution on the bottle is the same to be
used for CP). I have been using a very dilute Bondide: with Benomyl, on
the sufrace of the soil via: a mister. The water is barely milky. I, also
have Bondide that contains Bonomyl (posessing a slightly different
chemical makeup, but is probably safe).
Any suggestions regarding dilution instructions, or just ways to
eliminate the mould would be appreciated! (I love that plant)
