Interesting. So far, for me, it seems to help with the drainage, and have no
effect otherwise. This "scoria" comes from many locations, and maybe what I
have is more neutral in PH. My mix is constantly being improved, and lately
I am using less peat and more "coir", or coconut fiber peat. I mix it with
bark, tree fern fiber, coconut fiber, clay balls (small grade) and pumice
(almost neutral PH, very slightly acid). I am making my mix more "rocky"
than I used to, and would love to try adding pulverized granite to the mix,
but cannot find a supplier. I am trying to make a mix that will mot break
down quickly, and will make it through several seasons of our hot, wet
summers.
I will now look at the scoria with more suspicion. Thank you for the input.
