Subject: A few Newbiew questions

Hi everyone
A few months ago, I subscribed to this list and bemoaned the fact that I was
probably doomed to lead a CP-less existence as I knew of no source of CPs in
South Africa.

Thanks to many kind responses and offers of seed, I now have a small, but
(for the time being at least!) satisfying collection of CPs.

I have a number of questions, however, and I apologise for the length of
this msg:
1. A large number of N. ventricosa seeds have germinated (on 100% peat).
They are obviously slow growers, but how long before they need to be
transplanted? The seedlings are about 6 weeks old, and have not formed roots
yet - they can be lifted off the peat easily with a pin. How long does it
take them to form roots, and what should I be growing them in before they
are large enough to be transplanted into their "final" mix of bark and
peat?

2. I have 27 different Sarra seeds(Thanks to David Mellard, Eric Green and
John Wilden), the majority of which began germinating 2 weeks ago. Already
they are larger than the Nep seedlings, about 1.5cm) Again, how long before
I should transplant them? They were sown rather thickly onto 50/50
peat/silica sand.

3. My Drosphyllum seedlings are extremely rapid growers. They are now about
3 weeks old and 5cm (2in) tall, with about 5 leaves each. Should I
transplant them? (Only 3 germinated, and they are fairly wide apart in a 20
cm pot.)

4. I bought two Sarraceni plants from Eric Green (leuco and alata) and I
must, with some embarassment, admit that their flowers have me flummoxed!
Where is the to be found? I cut open the alata flower to try and figure out
its structure (and ensure pollination) - and had no idea what was going on!
Is there a website which explains the structure of Sarra flowers?

Final question - has anyone heard from Eric Green recently? He hasn't
replied to my last two e-mails..a period of about a month, now.

In conclusion, thank you to everyone who assisted me in finally becoming a
CPer, and for enduring this long message.
