These plants (at least what I have seen of them) can be assigned to 
_N. veitchii_ without great problems.

Rather certainly not. The Mt. Penrissen plants are nothing like the 
unabmiguous _N. maxima_ evidenced by the drawing accompanying the 
original description of _N. curtisii_.
