Hey Fernando,
Sorry to hear I won't be seeing you at the conference next month. I will
be there. I was planning to take you to see some Darlingtonia sites. Oh
well, another time, another place. Anyway, I have P. antarctica and D.
uniflora from Cordillera Pelada ( Valdivia, Chile ) at 750 m altitude.
There the recorded mean annual temp is 10C, precipitation ~3500 mm. I
remember telling you I got these, you felt they would not survive.
Surprise, the P. antarctica is just now comming out of dormancy, the D.
uniflora is looking great! The first season they grew some and then
became dormant. I bagged them and refrigerated for 2 months. The D.
uniflora burst into growth and look like they may flower soon. I took
leaf cuttings, which look good, but no sprouts yet. One sure way to
propagate though: When I got them, one had a tiny pup on the stem. I took
this off and it has now reached full size. This sundew I feel is not
really for the collector, but makes for good study. I will report more
details as I get them.
regards,
-Ivan
