Hi John,

As a fellow married man, I completely sympathize with your plight!
My wife is not overly enthusiastic about the plants either, but has
compromised a great deal. I too have an indoor grow set-up with
miscellaneous aquaria, light fixtures, etc. I must admit it's not
the best looking thing, but she puts up with it!

Of course, the above doesn't help since your wife has already
nixed your plans before you could start ;-)! A few helpful tips
for all those married folks. First, grow plants your significant
half at least partially enjoys. My wife loves the smaller rosetted
sundews. She hates Nepenthes. So, I grow lots of sundews indoors
and hide my Neps in the back of the set-up or at a friends (single!)
greenhouse.

Second, don't overstep your boundaries. My plant rack takes up
a four foot by 3 foot space. Not overly large, and she puts up
with it with the understanding that it won't expand beyond this size.
Of course, you always want to expand, but that's the compromise!

Third, use equally sized and coloured pots, saucers, etc. Nothing
looks worse indoors than a mix of pot sizes and colours. My wife is
actually able to distinguish between more than three colours (I
was amazed at her ability to do this ;-)!)

Fourth, invite your significant other over to a fellow cp'ers place
preferably a bachelor. These friends rarely care about the copious
algae growing in the trays, the pile of empty containers stuffed
under the bench, the empty pie trays turned into water saucers, etc.
Once your spouse sees this, they'll surely be happy that you're
somewhat neater.

Enjoy. You probably still won't get that plant rack, unless you
fork out around $500 for a custom made job ;-)!

Happy growing,

Chris
