Hi you all,
as I went through the e-mails which had accumulated during my holidays
I noticed that the discussion on in vitro culture of CP has started
again. I appreciate this as I'm doing in vitro culture of miscellaneous
plants since 1989. Unfortunatedly I can't tell you too much on in vitro
culture of CP since we're doing it only for about one year -> not too much
experience. (Beside that, it's also part of a larger project we're doing
here, so I don't want to talk too much on it before publication...Hi
Jan!).
What we learned until now is that Drosera (which is the only CP we are
working with) grows very slowly in vitro: about 2 to 3 months for one
growth cycle (=then you need to transfer the plant or explant to fresh
nutrient medium), which is much when compared with the 4 to 6 weeks
usual for most other Dicots.
Multiplication through adventitious budding normally occurs rather
easily on hormone-free media, but is VERY different from species to
species, in some cases it seems to be dependent also from the cultivar
or form.
So that's what makes the whole thing a very longlasting story as one
has to check each and every new species in order to find out the
optimal composition of the nutrient medium...a Never Ending Story!!
Anyway, of course I can give initial hints on tissue culture to whoever
is interested. In addition I know some good books on the topic, dealing
with the theory as well as the practice of tissue culture-I just have
to find out the titles to e-mail them the next time I log on. In the
meantime it seems I'm going to start into the weekend!!!
So long.
Chris.
