Dear List,
My VFT seed have germinated...at least I think they are VFT. The shiny black
seed coat is clearly visible and the seed looks very much like the VFT seed
that I planted. The seedlings, however, do not resemble VFT at all. There is
a white root coming out of the seed coat and a green area...probably the
petiole. But I do not see any minature traps or anything. Do the traps only
become visible after the seed coat had been totally shed? Also, my D.
indica, D. burmanii, and B. liniflora type 'Darwin' have germinated. It is
my first time growing these plants.....does anyone have any advise
concerning the type of medium to use and lighting and temperature
requirements. Currently the plants are sitting in a 100% peat mix with lots
of direct afternoon sunlight.
Also, I was watching my S. flava, and I observed that there were extremely
rich nectar reserves just on the hood of the plant. My question to the list
is: why would flies and insects venture into the danger zone when there are
bountiful supplies of nectar present right on the hood? In fact, no nectar
is visible near the lip of the plant but the pools of nectar are there on
the hood.
Thanks all,
adwait kulkarni
