Subject: Scale on Young Nepenthes

I need advice on battling (and defeating!) scale insects on some of my
Nepenthes. I'm particularly concerned about controlling scale on my
young Nepenthes, some of which are only 2-3 cm in diameter, which I
suspect may be sensitive to some chemicals. I've removed all I can find
manually (toothpicks & cotton swabs, with & without alcohol), but they
keep coming back & I need to hit them hard. I've seen previous postings
here suggesting malathion or orthene for mealybugs & aphids - will this
work for scale? And should I treat non-infested plants (large & small)
as well as a prophylactic measure? Please post replies to the listserv
as I think others will be interested in this.

Good growing!
