I am NEW to all the various carnivorous plant types and I am interested
in receiving information about Mailorder CP Nurseries that sell
carnivorous plants that will survive the Hot & Humid weather we have in
South East Florida ( Fort Lauderdale Zone 10-11 ). As an example, the
Venus Flytraps that are often sold in Home Depot, K-Mart and some local
nurseries NEVER survive more than a few weeks. Are their Mail Order
nurseries that send out a catalog with photographs and descriptions
of each type of CP with their suitable climatic requirements ?

Whilst I'm not too sure on the climatic requirements of VFT's (my own plants
haven't been fazed by 110 Faren.- that was before I got an automatic opener
for the greenhouse window :) ) , the most likely cause of expiry is probably
what they've been watered with. I'm constantly surprised by some of the
ignorance shown by supposed 'nurserymen', in the UK. Watering them (that is if
they ARE watered at all) with the hose connected to tap-water is a sure fire
way to bring about a slow demise.
Before buying you might want to ask what they've been watered with.If the
answer for all is 'tapwater' then go to a specialised CP nursery, addresses of
which I think are at the CP home page.(BTW what do you water them with?)
