We discussed this once before on the list. Our discussion could add the
following parameters to your list --

- Potential for red coloration is genetic, and plants that don't have
the right genes won't turn red regardless of their growing conditions.

- Soil type may be a factor. Some soil may contain nutrients that
facilitate the reddening.

If nutrients are truly a factor, doesn't it seem like the plant's diet
would affect the trap coloration? I haven't noticed this myself,
although I have not tried to moderate my plants' diet either.
